From tobacco barn to dream come true . . . Richmond Area Theater has been entertaining Madison County for more than 14 years in “borrowed spaces” as diverse as an empty furniture store, the National Guard Armory, the Hummel Planetarium, school auditoriums, and the Richmond Area Arts Center. But we’ve always dreamed of a home of our own. That dream came true in the summer of 2004 with the dedication of the old tobacco barn at the new Madison County Battlefield Park. While some may see a drafty tobacco barn, we aficionados of imagination and transformation see a grand space that some day will be worthy of its namesake, The Rose—Shakespeare’s playhouse in London.
